Laykari Trainer

The Laykari Trainer helps you develop polyrhythm skills by fitting different numbers of bols into a fixed number of beats.
How it works
Laykari (laya + kari — "playing with tempo") is the art of fitting N syllables evenly across D beats. For example, fitting 5 bols into 4 beats (5:4) creates a quintuplet feel against the taal cycle.
Modes
Repeat mode
The trainer plays the pattern so you can hear and internalize the rhythm. Listen until the pattern feels natural before switching to practice.
Practice mode
The bol sounds mute and you play along. The visual grid stays active so you can follow the alignment of bols against beats.
Laykari mode
Progressive difficulty — the bol count increases each cycle. Start with simple ratios (2:4, 3:4) and work up to complex ones (7:4, 9:4) as your comfort grows.
Visual grid
The grid shows how bols and beats align. Each row represents one cycle, with bols spaced evenly across the beats. This visual feedback helps you see the polyrhythm, not just hear it.
Volume controls
Adjust beat, bol, and subdivision volumes independently. For example, keep the beat loud for reference while reducing bol volume as you gain confidence.
